In this week’s episode of “On the Road with Noble Outfitters,” we visited the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, OH. The largest single breed horse show in the world is celebrating its golden anniversary, so Dan visited the event to talk to some friendly people, pet some dogs and eat some good fair food.
Dan Costa, On the Road with Noble Outfitters host and Noble Outfitters CEO, first talked to Ed Dingledine, who has been attending Congress just for a few years – he was a senior at the Ohio State University when he attended the very first Quarter Horse Congress. In 1967 it was it was just a three-day event, what a change from 2016 where the Congress takes three weeks or more! Dan then introduced us to Chuck Smith, who also attended the very first Congress. Finally, we enjoyed talking to All American Quarter Horse Congress’ Executive Director Scott Myers. He briefly talked about the history of the Congress and shared some stats. Did you know that there is more than 650,000 people coming over to the event from all across the country and there are over 7,500 horses on the show grounds?
Noble Child of Tomorrow was Ellexxah Maxwell. Ellexxah attended her first Congress when she was only 3 days old and she started showing horses when she was 18 months old. She is a pretty accomplished horse rider and she is only 16 years old. She sure has a bright career ahead of her! After Ellexxah Dan talked to Lauren Harrington, the 2015 Congress Queen. She is also an accomplished horse rider – being a Congress Queen is not only about looks but also about horsemanship.
After we visited the Puppy Alley, Dan walked around Congress and visited some of the dealers that carry Noble Outfitters. Julie, the owner of West 20, presented her 7500 sq ft of shopping space. We stopped by Cashman’s to see the new Guardsman Turnout Blanket and the Guardsman Fly Mask, displayed elegantly on a bronze horse statue. Finally, we talked to Tami Plants from Schneider’s Saddlery about the official Congress jackets they are providing for winners, but they are also available for purchase.
So, did Dan eat the Roast Beef Sundae with a cherry tomato on top? Watch the full episode below to find out!
