Our Favorite Recipes – Horse Cakes, Carrot/Apple


We love making horse treats! It’s a great afternoon activity to do with your friends, your kids, or your students. These cookies are healthier and tastier than the store bought cookies at a fraction of the price. They make great barn gifts too. Here is one of our favorite recipes, enjoy!

Horse Cakes, Carrot/Apple

  • 1 carrot
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups oats
  • 2 Tablespoons oil


  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  2. Grate the carrot and apple
  3. Mix together all ingredients
  4. Place mixture in baking pan
  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until golden brown
  6. Cool for four hours in refrigerator
  7. Cut into 2” squares or use your favorite cookie cutters for fun shapes

  1. WOW!!!!! They are really good horse treats but I don’t think they needed to be in the o en for 40mins or cooled for four hours
